Beauty treats are such a joy to indulge in, especially if they’re beneficial for your skin or your overall well being. There are a lot of beauty products out there that pamper and rejuvenate you but, truth be told, they can be quite pricey. This is especially if you’re going for the really good ones that can even solve some of your beauty dilemmas. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy these treats at all. The good thing about beauty treats, aside from their pampering and nourishing effects, is that they’re mostly made from ingredients you can find at home. Sure, you read the labels and see all the fancy ingredient names but when you look closer you’ll see that these can be substituted with more accessible things. Get your crafty side on and read below for our favorite DIY homemade beauty treats that’s not only going to get your skin glowing but will also save you some bucks!

  • For oily, acne prone skin – mix 1 ripe banana with a teaspoon of honey and mash into a bowl then add 10 drops of lemon juice and combine well. Apply this onto your face and leave it for 15 minutes before you remove and rinse with warm water. Do this once or twice a week to control oily skin and help prevent breakouts.

  • To nourish most skin types – who would’ve thought that pumpkins were not only great for eating but for pampering the face as well? Pumpkin facial masks are one of the most luxurious (seasonal) treats you can get from fancy spas to nourish your skin but you can always recreate them at home. You’ll need to mix 1 cup of pureed pumpkin (fresh or canned will do) with 2 tablespoons of unflavored yogurt, 1/6 cup of crushed almonds and 1/8 teaspoon of olive oil. Leave the mixture on your skin for 10 minutes while in a warm shower (to make enzymes more active) and then rinse with warm water.

  • To lighten dark areas – lemons are great for exfoliating. You can use it on rough skin and if you ever have a dark area you want to lighten, be it the knees, elbows, or even your armpit, all you have to do is rub it with a lemon wedge for about 10 minutes for days consistently and you’ll begin to notice those areas lightening up.

  • For kissable lips – cold weather can make lips dry and chapped but so can hot weather. A quick lip exfoliating beauty treat you can do at home all year round is to put Vaseline on your lips and use a soft-bristled toothbrush to make small circular motions to exfoliate and get rid of dead skin cells. You can also use granulated sugar or coffee grinds if you don’t have an extra toothbrush.

  • Eye makeup remover – heavy, dramatic eye makeup is so sexy but can be such a pain to remove. All those dark eye shadows you used can really leave some smudge on your lids that can be quite hard to get rid of. Next time you’re having a hard time removing eye makeup, mix 2 tbsp of canola oil with 1 tbsp of EVOO and dab it on with a cotton ball. You can also mix olive oil and baby oil to remove even the most stubborn mascara.
