Oily hair is one of the things that can keep you from sporting a fabulous ‘do. Not only is it very unsightly (I mean, would you want to be see looking like you washed your hair in oil?), it’s also leaves you feeling icky and gross. There are a lot of things that we can blame oily hair on and one of that would be the summer weather which is a few couple of weeks away. Check out these tips on how to deal with oily hair:

  • Use dry shampoo – dry shampoo is a surefire quick fix for oily hair. However, it can be a bit tricky to apply if you have dark hair because most of the dry shampoos you can get today will leave you a bit of a chalky buildup. Good thing there’s a way to prevent that chalky finish. When using dry shampoo, section your hair off and spray on in between the sections. Spray a little at a time and then brush through. If you see the chalky substance starting to build up, you’ve sprayed on too much so just brush it off and get rid of the rest with your fingers.

  • Get your hair drunk – beer isn’t just for drinking, you can use it on your hair to help with oiliness, too! Back in the 50s and the 60s, beer was widely used by women (and some men) as a deep cleaner for hair but it lost its popularity with the advancement of beauty products. Wash your hair like you usually would and after shampooing, pour it on and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes then rinse. This trick also gives hair to the body so its also great for limp hair.

  • Choose hair products with sulfate – sulfate is one of the chemicals you’d rather leave out when it comes to food and other beauty products but when it comes to hair, it’s actually great to have in hair products. Shampoos that contain sulfate such as Neutrogena Clean Shampoo washes away dirt and excess oil without removing vital moisture needed to keep your hair from being dry. There are also great shampoos out there that contain sulfate and can be used on color treated hair so remember to read the label next time you go out to buy shampoo.

  • Use conditioner only on your ends – having oily hair can sometimes discourage you from using conditioner because you know it’s only going to make your hair oilier. There’s a way for you to still have silky smooth hair, though, despite it being oily. Use conditioner only on the ends of your hair and avoid applying it on to your roots. This will let you enjoy the perks of a conditioner without worsening your har problem.

  • Use a clarifying shampoo – using styling products on your hair everyday leads to product build up and that is one of the things that can cause or worsen oily hair. Make sure that you really clean your hair (and scalp) every week by using a clarifying shampoo.
