Loreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara Review | Aelida

Hi Beauties,

Loreal recently released their Voluminous Butterfly mascara that promises to lengthen, stretch and volumize the lashes. I picked this up on a whim because I thought to myself, “Self, wouldn’t it be so awesome to have lashes that flutter like a butterfly?” Of course I said “Uh, YAH!!”.

loreal-voluminous-butterfly-mascara-review1-1024x682-1 This is how most of my shopping trips go – but I digress. Lets see what this Butterfly mascara is all about. loreal-voluminous-butterfly-mascara-brush1-1024x682-1 The wand is made of rubber bristles and is shaped like a it would be the baby of Loreal’s Telescopic and Maybelline’sColossal Volume Express Cat Eyes (two of my favorites). There are tapered longer bristles on one side and shorter, more even bristles on the other side. The head of the wand itself is slightly curved. loreal-voluminous-butterfly-mascara-brush2-1024x682-1

There is a gap between each set of bristles that allows the mascara to collect and then be dispersed evenly to each lash by the spikes. I like to use the longer side on the top lashes to quickly coat and separate the hairs. The shorter bristles are great for the lower lash line and hard to grab lashes on the corners.

This process works very well to wing out the outer lashes on the same side as your dominant hand, but it can be a little awkward to flip the wand for the other eye.

I’d say the formulation is on the wetter side but it is not the wettest I have tried. The Voluminous Butterflymascara works great for me for the purposes of lengthening and definition. I’m not sure of the volumizing claim, but that is not high on the list of my mascara needs. I have not experienced any smudging or flaking with this either.

Removal is easy with just soap and water. The shade I used here is Blackest Black.

You can find this mascara in drugstores for around $7-$9.

Overall, I am really happy with this mascara! I get great lengthening and separation with it, which are basically the highest points on my mascara checklist. I also like the way the bristles are shaped to quickly pack on the product without getting clumpy. My only con is the awkwardness of flipping the wand for the winged effect on my left eye or switching to my left hand for those lashes.

I give the Voluminous Butterfly Mascara 4.5/5
