When can you get pregnant? Tips on how to successfully conceive a baby

Maybe you and your husband are trying to have a little one. You both might know the act of making a baby, but it’s actually a complicated process to get pregnant. Here are some tell-tale signs which can you help know when’s the best time to conceive a baby.

The best way to get pregnant is to have intercourse during your ovulation period. If you want to know if it’s that time of the month, then you need to perform the following measures.

Track down your monthly period. If you have a regular menstrual cycle, you need to mark down the midpoint on your calendar. If your period occurs every 28 days, then you will be most likely ovulating on the 14th day of your cycle.

Check your cervical mucus. You know you’re about to ovulate if the discharge is clear and slippery, similar to the consistency of a raw egg white. If your mucus is sticky or cloudy, it means the ovulation period is through and you need to wait for another month for the ‘pregnancy window.’

Obtain your basal body temperature readings. An increased basal body temperature at rest means that you are ovulating. Purchase a basal body thermometer and take measurements before getting out of bed. Be sure to note the results on a notebook to determine the changes. Your fertility is at its peak two to three days before the highest point of your basal body temperature – about 1 degree higher from the norm.

Purchase an ovulation predictor set. You can purchase this type of kit from a pharmacy near you. This set tests your urine and notes for increase in the hormones associated with fertility. What’s great about this program is that it’s more accurate, meaning it can tell you the exact time of ovulation and even give you a heads up on when the ovulation will take place.

Apart from determining your ovulation period, there are many lifestyle modifications you need to undertake in order to be successful in getting pregnant. Such measures include eating healthy foods, avoiding caffeinated foods and beverages, and minimizing stress. An unhealthy diet and stress can lessen your chances of getting pregnant.

Another measure is to take a vitamin, especially one rich in folic acid, at least weeks before trying to get pregnant. These vitamins can reduce the chances of congenital defects such as spina bifida.

Remember to follow these guidelines if you and your husband are decided to have a baby together.
