Clinique Stay-Matte Oil-Free Makeup 26 Amber Review

Hello Beautiful People,

I’ve meant to do this post for ages but it alas, here we are. I’ve been wearing Clinique’s Stay-Matte Oil-Free Makeup for just about the entire Spring and Summer and now as I am squeezing the last few gobs out of the tube, its probably about time I get to it (also, I can now finally throw out that box ^_^).

Clinique Stay-Matte Oil-Free Makeup 26 Amber Review

If you’ve read any posts about my inner grease monster, you’ll know that I instantly get excited when a product comes out  that promises to keep oil at bay and help the skin stay looking fresher, longer. So naturally, when I saw this display at Sephora, I ran with arms pumping! (Don’t you dare think I’m kidding).

The Clinique Stay-Matte Oil-Free Makeup is an oil-free liquid foundation that claims to help you stay matte all day by absorbing shine, controlling oil and resisting sweat. I know, it sounds AMAZING, right!

Ok, hold on….control yourself! Let me get to the review.

Packaging: The foundation comes in a slim, squeezy tube with a thin nozzle that actually works very well to get product out without creating a mess. I like that it keeps the liquid inside sanitary and its a breeze to travel with. Simple, but effective!

Consistency & Coverage: The foundation is on the thicker side (not likely to drip) and applies very smoothly on the skin. The coverage is medium-buildable and on me, it dries to a natural to satin finish (for about 10 minutes). I know what you’re thinking: “But wait, I thought this was a matte foundation!”.

Longevity: To me, this is not a long-lasting foundation for what it claims. Note, I have very oily skin, so shortly after application of the product (even in conjunction with a setting powder), I still get a little shiny. So it’s easy to deduce that after a full day, my grease monster would be out for the world to see. Touchups are essential!! I have also tried this with multiple primers and was not impressed. Milk of Magnesia seemed to be my only saving grace, but that’s a post for another time 😉

Shade Range: I was really happy to see a fairly wide variety of shades in this collection totaling 20 gorgeous hues.

I use the shade Amber, which is an excellent match for me and is the 3rd darkest in the line.

Overall, I like this foundation for just about everything other than what it mainly claims to do. Application is a dream and the coverage is great while still feeling light and natural. Sadly, it was not strong enough to harness the beast that is my oil but I hope it can work for someone else.

I would recommend this product for someone with Dry-Combination or Normal-Combination skin. The liquid does not feel tight or drying like you would think of for a matte product, so I do not think it would cling to patches on dry skin. If you have very oily skin, this may not be potent enough on its own. However, with an excellent primer, things can change a bit.

I give Clinique Stay-Matte Oil Free Makeup 3/5
