About a month or 2 ago, I read an article about Drew Barrymore in Allure magazine, in which she announced that she is releasing her very own line of makeup!
Well ladies, that time is here! The new line, called Flower, is sold exclusively at Walmart and consists of a collection of affordably priced lipsticks, glosses, mascaras, nail polishes and so on available from January 31st.
Today I have for you a lipstick and matching gloss called Flamingo Flower and Iris I Could Fly respectively. They both have reddish-pink color that looks darker in the tube than on the skin.
The Flamingo Flower lipstick is what I would describe as a hard bullet. By this, I mean that when applied to the skin it does not come off as a creamy lipstick but more like a stain. I don’t know if this is the intention, but that is my experience at least with this color. The official website describes this as a Velvet lip color, which to me is not that accurate.
Don’t get me wrong, I like it but I wouldn’t describe the texture as ‘velvet’. It feels a little balmy when first applied but then after a minute it feels like theres nothing there – maybe a little dry. The initial moisture of the tube evaporates incredibly fast and what you are left with is non-textured color on the lips, like a stain.
The color lasts for about 4 – 6 hours depending on what you’re doing. Even after eating, some remnant of color was still on my lips.
This ‘Kiss Stick’ retails for $6.98 at Walmart.
The gloss, Iris I Could Fly, was the closest match to the lipstick I could find. It has a very vibrant color which compliments Flamingo Flower, but I would describe this as a greasy gloss. Its shiny and not sticky at all but with just a little too much of this, you’d look like you were eating fried chicken for hours!
I think a little goes a long way with this lip gloss by just applying to the center of the lips as opposed to spreading it all over because it leaks over the outline of the lips.
The gloss is contained in a sturdy plastic casing and comes with a standard doe foot applicator.
This ‘Shine On’ lip gloss retails for $6.98 at Walmart.
Flower Cosmetics are sold at Walmart and Walmart.com and are made with botanical-infused ingredients.
Bottomline: I think these products are OK. The finish of the lipstick is not my favorite but I think it would be great for someone who just wants a flush of color on the lips and just top it off with a lip balm or gloss. However, it is not transfer-proof so even though it feels like nothing’s there, color may still get on surfaces such as straws, glasses, people? 😉
I am not really a fan of the lipgloss. The color payoff is great but I personally prefer a stickier formula. This one is a bit too oily and I have to be careful that it doesn’t slide around over the edges of my lips.
Overall, I’d group these products together with a rating of 3 out of 5. For the price, I think they’re just OK.
Thanks so much for reading.
Have you picked up anything from the Flower line?
