Hello my Lovelies!
I hope your week has been going well! Today I have a review for a foundation I picked up recently at the drugstore. Maybelline Fit Me Shine-Free Foundation is a gel stick with an ‘anti-shine core’.
This twist up stick promises to keep shine at bay and dissolve excess oil with its lightweight powdery core. After testing this out, I did find that it held up to the flood-gates I call my oil glands, but I wouldn’t say it kept me matte all day.
The shade I picked up at the store turned out to be a little too light and cool-toned for my complexion but even so, it still blended in well. The manufacturers suggest using fingertips to apply but I just don’t really get down like that – I’d have brown fingerprints on everything in 2 seconds!
I used a dense, synthetic brush to blend on my face and realized it took some effort because the formula is quite dry and powdery. So, it probably would blend better with clean fingers but the brush was not too much of a hindrance anyway.
That said, I would not recommend this product to someone with very dry skin. I could see this would grab on to and accentuate dry patches in a hot minute! This would best suit normal to oily skin.
The finish is soft and fresh and feels very light on the skin. Without setting powder (like in the photo above), I consider it to have a natural or demi-matte finish, but maybe it would have a true matte finish on someone with less oily skin.
The Fit Me Shine Free Foundation has a medium coverage. It conceals minor discolorations, but if you have anything thats about 3 or more shades between your natural color, you’d need an actual concealer for that. If you want super light coverage, apply with a damp sponge.
Lasting Power was better than I expected at about 3-4 hours before my inner grease-monster tried to emerge. Considering the summer temperatures right now, I would classify that as somewhat of a success.
The Fit Me Shine Free Foundation retails for about $6 – $9 in drugstores and has a collection consisting of 12 shades. The shade I used here is Toffee/Caramel and is the 3rd darkest in the range.
Overall, I think this foundation is ok. I like that it helps to control oil a little but it is not as impressive to me as if it really kept me feeling fresh for 7-8 hours but I’m sure with a primer, the results would last longer. I usually am not a fan of using stick foundations for an everyday routine but this would be perfect for travel or touchups on the go.
I enjoyed the finish (while it lasted) and I may return to the store for a warmer shade to have a more seamless color match by mixing the two. The fact that there is a decent range of shades available is always a plus.
I’d give The Fit Me Shine Free Foundation a 4 out of 5.
Thanks so much for reading!
