I’ve been on the hunt for a good highlighter for a while now. Using a highlighter gives you an iridescent glow that cannot be matched with any other product. It is the finishing touch to a make-up routine that visibly shimmers and thus lifts the complexion to give a flawless look.
My first stop was with Benefit’s High Beam and from this, my personal preference has steered me away from liquid highlighters. I found it hard to blend the liquid over my foundation without it blending into an ugly texture, despite only dabbing it on. I simply wanted a good powder highlighter that could be quickly applied to give that sexy sheen I wanted.
After reading several reviews I had my heart set on NARS’ Albatross Powder Highlighter. As I already own the “Laguna” Bronzer by NARS, which I absolutely adore, I was definitely keen to purchase this powder. At £20.50 it’s not the cheapest highlighter on the market but you’re going to get a great product in return.

First things first, I love the packaging of NARS’ products. Yes they can easily get messy on the exterior but I don’t mind as I think the compact is really practical: it has its own mirror inside so it’s great for on-the-go touch-ups or application. The product is actually fairly small, and is much smaller than the usual NARS compacts. I never actually saw the product in real life and had only seen it and ordered it online, so I was quite surprised at its size compared to say, the Laguna Bronzer. However, it is still going to last you a considerable length of time due to the fact that highlighter is not needed in large quantities on the skin!.
I love the golden undertone to this highlighter. It looks chalky and thick in the container, but once used and blended onto the skin, it transforms into a sheer, luminous, shimmer that isn’t in-your-face
glittery or unnatural but a glowing, subtle-but-noticeable highlight. In the photo below, you can see where I have just swiped my fingertips across the compact, the pigmented shimmer looks fabulous
Once blended, the shimmer really comes to light and this is what makes this highlighter so lovely due to the natural but noticeable look it gives. Overall, I highly recommend this product. It is the best highlighter I’ve used in a long time. Yes, it’s a lot of money to fork out but it’s worth it. I apply it with a brush on the top of my cheekbones, down my nose and on the Cupid’s bow. It has a number of uses: on your brow bones, Cupid’s bow, shoulders and décolletage- you can even use it as an eyeshadow or in the corners of your eyes to open them up. It’s a multi-purpose item that really has so many uses- I love it!
