Ok. So I’m not even going to front say this is the simplest or easiest braid around – but it is very pretty and will definitely get you some attention and hopefully a few compliments along the way.
The instructions may seem tricky at first but they are not difficult individually and are very repetitive so you should get the hang of it in no time!
Step 1: Gather your materials. You will need:
– a comb or hair brush,
– 1 or 2 bobby pins in the color of your hair
– 2 elastics in the color of your hair
– Optional: Colored ribbon
Step 2: Gather all your hair to one side over your shoulder and comb/brush out any tangles.
Step 3: Tie an elastic around your hair at the nape of your neck.
Step 4: Separate a fairly small section of hair from the ponytail and braid it down to the end.
Step 5: Wrap this braid around the hair band to conceal it.
Step 6: Pin one or two bobby pins at the back of the wrapped braid to keep it in place. Spraying some hairspray on the braid will also help.
Step 7: Separate another small section of hair from the ponytail and braid it down to the end. If you have layered hair, braid from your longest strands so you won’t run out of hair for the grand finale!
Step 8: From the remaining hair, divide it into 3 equal sections as you would for a normal braid. Place the small braid as the second strand from your shoulder. Now you should be holding 4 strands.
Ok. Here’s where things can get a little tricky but don’t worry. I got u!
Step 9: Using the labels above, place the INNER strand UNDER the strand next to it.
Step 10: Now, don’t let go. Keep the party moving and place that strand OVER the braid.
The braided strand should now be in the 2nd position from the new ‘inner’ strand
Step 11: Grab the OUTER strand and place that OVER the strand next to it.
Step 12: Keep holding it and place it UNDER the braided strand. And now we are at the the position that we started.
Repeat Steps 9 through 12 until you reach the end of your hair.
Just think Under, Over. Over Under.
Step 13: Tie the end of the braid off with an elastic and remove the band you tied the small braid with.
Step 14: If you are prone to the frizzies like me, spray some hair spray around the braid especially on the underside to combat against the friction from your clothing.
Voila! You’re done!
This style would look especially nice if you have some color dimension to your hair with highlights or lowlights.
