One of biggest areas in your home are the walls. They take up a lot of space which makes them great big canvasses for adding more detail and design to your home. A lot of people prefer to have neutral colored walls in their homes so that it would match any of their furniture perfectly but if you’re someone who’s artsy, you probably would rather have your walls with livelier designs, painting or wall arts instead of having plain and boring ones. Accent walls are becoming a huge trend when it comes to interior designing, too, so don’t be afraid to take one wall and convert it into an accent wall to spruce up your space. Here are some DIY wall ideas that will liven up any space in your home.

  • Newspaper wall – if you have a subscription and you have your morning paper delivered to your front door daily, chances are that they accumulate quite quickly and while it’s always a good idea to take them to recycling centers, why not make the most out of them at home and turn them into wallpaper instead? it’s a great idea if you want sort of a monochromatic wall for a corner in your room that you can turn into a reading nook. It’s virtually free plus it’s quite easy to do as well. Use newspaper as wallpaper only in spaces around your house where walls don’t come in contact with water. Otherwise, you may end up with a messy wall soon.

  • String wall art – if you want something that will really give a particular space in your home some attitude, try doing string wall art. This DIY wall décor is a bit dragging and laborious to make, especially if you’re planning to cover a huge surface on a bog blank wall but you’ll definitely feel that it’s worth all the hardwork once you see the results. It’s a great way to add texture to your walls at home, too. Of course, if you don’t have much patience for crafts, you can make a small scale version of this on canvass and hang it up as wall art instead. See full tutorial here.

  • Faux decal – wall decals are just some of the best selling wall decors from home improvement stores because they’re super easy to put on your walls and they give you amazing results. If you have a good hand for painting and drawing though, you can make your own faux decals by drawing the pattern and painting it directly on your wall (you can use a stencil for certain shapes and silhouettes) instead of using a sticker. The results are more permanent if you do it this way, too.

  • Paint swatch mosaic – looking for a way to add a burst of color into a dull room? Well, you could paint the wall all sorts of different colors if you don’t mind buying a million buckets of paints and use only a little from each. If you want something cheaper and more practical, why not create paint swatch mosaics instead? This will surely make any wall in your home pop with color.
