13 Simple Braided Hairstyle for Beginners | Aelida

Spring and summer are the seasons when we get to show off our wonderful locks after they were underneath bonnets and beanies for winter. Braiding your hair will make you look refreshing and ready for spring and summer. But what if the only braid you know is the simple french or dutch braid?

Worry not, ladies. Here are some cute braided hairstyles that looks complicated, sophisticated and chic. And the great thing? The only braid you need to know is either french or dutch braid! So improve your braiding skills with these simple braided hairstyles you can try out now.

Just to be clear, dutch braid is similar with french braid except you braid it to the back whereas in french braid you weave the section in front of the other section.

  1. Braided Ponytail This is a casual hairstyle for a jog outside or a run to the mall. Part your hair on whichever side you want and start braiding a section or two. You can secure the braided section with a pin or clip temporarily before gathering all your hair and tie it into a ponytail. For a more organic look like below, grab a section of your hair and wrap it around your tie. Pin it underneath the ponytail.

  2. Infinite Half-up Braid Actress and singer Selena Gomez once used this hairstyle. Take two sections on either side of your and french or dutch braid them. Pin or clip those sections temporarily. Bring them at the back of your head. Now here’s the tricky part. You take a weaved section of your braid and create a hole where you can insert the other braid. Once inserted, secure it in place with a bobby pin. For the endless-like look, the braid where you inserted the first braid is placed behind that first braid. Pin it behind where the pin can’t be seen.

  3. Triple Braided Updo This one might look complicated but it really isn’t. Create three sections of your hair wherein one is on top of the other and separate them with each other. Start braiding each section. Now, roll each braid into an individual bun and pin them in place.

  4. Messy Braided Ponytail This is similar to the first one except that at the start of the ponytail you instead incorporate tiny pieces into your braid and continue braiding. Tug a few of the strands to make it look whimsy just like the image below.

  5. Braided Headband

You have to have a long enough hair for this one. Also, you can either do this with the braid on your forehead or on top of your head. Grab a small section underneath your hair and start braiding it. Cross it over either your head or your forehead and pin it in place. Arrange your hair so that the start of the braid won’t be visible.
  6. Diagonal Braid This one is like Katniss Everdeen’s hair except more chic and great for Sunday’s brunch, not just for killing tributes. Start at one side of your head and braid it diagonally until it reaches your ear. Grab a section of your hair and wrap it around your braid. Pin that section in place. For extra tightness, you can tie an elastic band first before wrapping the hair around.

  7. Twisted Braid-like Ponytail
This is not a braid, technically, but it looks like one and also looks complicated. Part half of you hair and tie it into a ponytail. Then create a hole on top of the hair tie and insert your ponytail into the hole. Incorporate a few section into the twisted ponytail and tie it into a ponytail. Create a hole on that hair tie and insert the ponytail into it. do the same on the third and last section.
  8. Faux Braid
This one was worn by Leighton Meester in her role as Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl. This is great for those who don’t know how to braid at all. Just criss-cross a section and pin them in place.
  9. Game of Thrones Braid This is similar with the infinity braid except you just pin each braids underneath a section of hair. Ultimately, it looks like a semi-halo.

  10. Rope Braid Bun This updo is great for formal dinners or spring weddings. And yes, twisting two sections of hair is a braid. It’s called rope braid.

  11. Hippie Braid This one is versatile. You can wear it as an everyday look, in the office, or on a lunch date.

  12. Double Braided Bun This is sleek and stylish at the same time and great for the office. Although it may look complicated, it’s actually really simple.

  13. Triple Braid on Braid I’ve tried this on one of my friends once and everyone kept asking how I did it. Since it looks like dozens of strands braided altogether, it might look complicated. But actually, it’s just three braids braided to one!
