How To Pull Off The Athleisure Trend | Aelida

There are two things that ladies of all generations thought would always be polar opposites: fashion and comfort. Now, thanks to the rise of athleisure, we don’t have to worry about looking for that delicious fine line between style and comfort.

So what is athleisure? Athleisure is a portmanteau of the words athletic and leisure. This makes it a cross between streetwear and sportswear, of fitness and fashion. This is practically the love child of comfort and style. And everyone, celebrities or otherwise, are jumping into this fashion bandwagon like hungry lions pouncing on their prey.

Athleisure has been around for sometime already in the forms of yoga pants, jogger pants, sneakers and hoodies. And while these are true to comfort, they are less inclined to style. Ladies, these apparels are not the only things you can wear for the athleisure look you want.

Topshop’s Unique SS15 was a sight to behold. Their collections were inspired from the sportswear mixed with British sophistication. They created a new face for athleisure and it’s chicer and more everyday wearable than it was before.

Using their fashion collection as inspiration, I give you these chic ways of pulling off the athleisure trend with style and flourish the streets with comfort and sophistication.

  • Sports bra as crop top
We see those fit women jogging early in the morning in sports bra and jogger pants, iPod playing and earphones on the ears. But jogger pants are not the only garments you can pair with sports bra. Pull off a high waisted cotton pants that fits snuggly to your legs or a skirt like the girl below did for a comfortable outfit during the day. Wear a blazer over it for work or night’s out.

  • White anything
White is by far the trendiest color this spring and it’s also the perfect color to be present for this season’s athleisure outfits. White gives a refreshing look to the outfit you have. It also creates a sporty feel with tennis skirts, pleated skirts or collared shirts. The key is picking the right accessories and the textile used for the piece. Something breezy and loose is perfect for spring and summer then pair it with strappy heels or shoes with socks.

  • Color blocked outfits
There are stand-alone color blocked outfits that are perfect for a more chic and stylish athleisure style that’s great for this spring and summer. Pick pieces with bold and dark colors and has at least a small amount of whiteness in it. Find clothes with a simpler and more structured silhouette.

  • Stripes in basic or neutral colors
Stripes, stripes, stripes. One of the most loved prints for generations and generations. This print is also a wonderful ingredient for this season’s athleisure style. Pick a striped print that consists of neutral colors (white, black, brown) or basic colors (blue, red, yellow). You can pair them with bold color-popping accessories like Queen Bey did. Or you can just slip on some neutral accessories and let the stripes do the talking.

  • Strappy heels and flat sandals as alternative for sneakers

Sneakers are not the only thing you can wear as an athleisure shoewear. Take it from the Topshop’s Unique SS15 collection and go nautical-inspired with two-toned strappy heels. Otherwise, slip on a pair of plain colored sandals over a pair of bold colored socks. Just be sure that both colors harmonizes with each other.

Feel inspired with tennis players and their collared shirts in short sleeves. Find something made of loose and breezy material like cotton. As for the bottom, a pair of loose shorts or a loose skirt and laced shoes will go nicely.

  • Flowy skirts, pleated or otherwise

jogger pants, yoga pants and leggings are not the only options you have to pull off the athleisure trend. A flowy skirt gives a refreshing look that you want to capture for spring and summer. Also, if you pair them with a more structured top, it will give a wonderful balance of loose and sleekness to your outfit.
